There are varied opinions as to the timing of the first visit to the dentist. According to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, children should see a dentist when they get their first tooth and not later than 1 year of age.
Whereas, the American Academy of Pediatrics suggests that unless your child has risk factors for having problems with their teeth, such as sleeping with a cup or bottle, teeth staining, thumb sucking, etc., it is sufficient to visit the dentist by around the third birthday.
You may also want to visit a dentist early if your child suffers from a medical condition that puts them at risk for developing teeth problems, such as Down syndrome.
As soon as your infant gets his first tooth, you should start to clean it. At first you can just use a soft wash cloth and later buy them a soft children’s toothbrush.
